FM: Switzerland seeks active role in resolving Ukrainian conflict
Switzerland views itself as part of the solution to the Ukrainian crisis, with its neutrality and efforts to establish peace in Ukraine representing its "added value."
This was stated by the Swiss Foreign Minister, Ignazio Cassis, in an interview with Tages-Anzeiger, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"Since the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano in 2022, we have consistently demonstrated our commitment: we continue to act, and we are part of the solution [to the Ukrainian conflict]," the minister said when asked whether Switzerland's efforts to resolve the crisis should be considered futile, given that peace talks have largely stalled since the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attacks on the Kursk region began.
Cassis emphasized that the confederation’s neutrality is "not a God-given right" and "exists only as long as other states acknowledge it." "Therefore, Switzerland must prove that it is neutral," the diplomat asserted.
"If Switzerland takes an active role in the peace process in Ukraine, it will contribute to global stability as well as to our reputation," he explained. "Simply put, the more complex the world becomes, the greater our added value."
