FM: Türkiye stands firm against US military action on Iran
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that Türkiye is not interested in creating a new source of instability in the region and does not want the US to launch an attack on Iran.
"Our region cannot tolerate another war, another big source of instability. And we don't know what type of escalation might occur in case of such an attack. So we don't want to see any [U.S.] attack on Iran taking place. We need to see, as was the case in the past, peaceful negotiations employed by both sides and interested parties," Fidan said, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
On March 7, US President Donald Trump announced that he had sent a message to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, proposing talks on the country’s nuclear programme. Tehran rejected direct negotiations with Washington but allowed for the possibility of talks through intermediaries.
On March 30, the US leader stated that if nuclear negotiations did not yield results within two weeks, additional tariffs would be imposed on Iran. He also threatened the Islamic Republic with unprecedented bombing in case of a complete breakdown of the deal. In response, Khamenei expressed skepticism about the likelihood of a US military intervention but warned that any attempt by Washington to incite unrest in Iran would be met with firm resistance.
