France condemns Russian “Oreshnik” strikes on Ukraine
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong protest against the massive Russian attacks on January 9, which targeted both civilian populations and Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure.
As Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media, speaking to the press in Paris, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux stated, “France resolutely condemns the massive Russian strikes carried out last night on Ukrainian territory, … including the use of the ballistic ‘Oreshnik’ missile. In the midst of winter, these attacks were directed primarily at residential buildings and energy infrastructure, causing numerous casualties and leaving part of the Ukrainian population without electricity.”
Confavreux underlined that the assaults reveal Russia’s intent to continue escalating the conflict and reflect Moscow’s unwillingness to engage in peaceful negotiations, despite ongoing efforts by European partners, the United States, and Ukraine.
The French government’s condemnation adds to growing international concern over Russia’s increasingly aggressive military operations, which have repeatedly targeted civilian infrastructure and raised fears of a humanitarian crisis during the harsh winter months.
