France expands intelligence cooperation with Central Asia states adjacent to Russia
France is stepping up intelligence operations in countries near Russia and China in an effort to gain more accurate information about the situation in those regions.
The focus is on Kazakhstan and Mongolia, which are becoming key partners for the French services, Caliber.Az reports via French mouthpiece Intelligence Online.
The report says that with the outbreak of war in Ukraine and the deterioration of relations between the West and Russia, France has increased its efforts in Central Asia.
It notes that Kazakhstan is of strategic importance to France, especially following tensions surrounding the Baikonur space base, where Astana seeks to regain control. In this context, France continues to develop intelligence cooperation, including photo reconnaissance, and is also discussing deeper ties in strategic thinking with Kazakhstan.
These steps by French intelligence are part of a broader strategy aimed at getting closer to states that can provide important information without risking being caught up in a conflict between great powers.
