French FM says Macron may resume phone talks with Putin
French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna has said that there have been no phone calls between French President Emmanuel Macron and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin since the autumn of 2022, but they may resume contact.
She made the remarks talking to Radio France, according to European Pravda.
"It is likely" that conversations between Putin and Macron will resume, Colonna said.
"One of the current Russian authorities’ problems is that they are in a parallel reality, and we have no interest in reinforcing this mental isolation," she said.
At the same time, for negotiations to resume, France must help Ukraine restore its position at the front.
"The path to negotiations will undoubtedly be through better results on the ground. That is why we are helping the counter-offensive as much as we are helping it politically, diplomatically. We are working on a new aid package for Ukraine," she added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier said that his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron was wasting his time considering any dialogue with Russia.
In February, the Kremlin complained that the French and German leaders had not initiated contact with Putin for a long time.
