Ukraine: Married couple killed, children hurt in Russian kamikaze drone attack PHOTO
In the early hours of June 28, Russian forces launched an attack on Odesa using kamikaze drones, resulting in civilian casualties.
The incident was reported by a Ukrainian media outlet, citing Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, per Caliber.Az.
According to the Odesa Regional State Administration, the strike targeted civilian infrastructure, causing significant damage to a residential high-rise and several vehicles.
One of the drones hit a 21-story apartment building, sparking a fire that engulfed the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors. Several residents were trapped inside their apartments as a result.
Emergency responders discovered the bodies of a married couple beneath the rubble in one of the destroyed apartments. In total, 17 people have been reported injured so far, including two children — a seven-year-old boy in moderate condition and a three-year-old who suffered from smoke inhalation.
Officials noted that discrepancies in the victim count may stem from whether or not individuals experiencing acute stress reactions are included.
The Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office stated that Russian forces deployed over 20 strike drones in the attack on the region.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched under Part 2 of Article 438 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which pertains to war crimes resulting in civilian deaths. The investigation is being conducted under the procedural oversight of the regional prosecutor's office.
