French socialist leader targeted in May day protest incident
French Socialist party leader Olivier Faure was attacked during a May Day demonstration in Amiens.
Citing regional outlets, Le Figaro reported that a group of activists broke through a security cordon during the march and threw flour at Faure while shouting insults and calling him a “traitor.”
Faure was participating in the procession alongside Amiens mayor Brigitte Fouré, who was leading the demonstration. Local media outlet Ici Picardie said the protest involved several far-left activist groups.
Members of the Socialist Party condemned the incident, describing the attack as unacceptable and expressing support for Faure.
Separately, less serious disruptions involving Socialist Party figures were also reported during May Day marches in Paris.
