Georgia favours soonest signing of peace treaty between Azerbaijan, Armenia
Chairman of Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova met with the delegation headed by Chairman of Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, on December 11.
During the conversation, along with bilateral cooperation between the parliaments, the successful trilateral format of cooperation between the Foreign Relations Committees of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia was noted, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Press and Public Relations Department of Azerbaijan’s Parliament.
Gafarova emphasised that today there are no obstacles for signing a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia: "Azerbaijan is ready for peace and we believe that a peace agreement will be signed soon".
For her part, Papuashvili shared his impressions of his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev during the visit. He emphasised the importance of ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan, which are based on historical roots and are now at the level of strategic partnership.
During the talks, the sides noted with satisfaction the joint activities of Azerbaijan and Georgia within international organisations, including constant support to each other on issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty, demonstration of solidarity.
The Georgian Parliament speaker called the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan in February 2024 historic and noted that these elections are of great importance for Georgia as well.
He wished success to Azerbaijan and noted that Georgia is in favour of signing a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia as soon as possible.
