Georgia's Constitutional Court to begin hearings on "foreign influence" law with multiple lawsuits
Georgia's Constitutional Court (CC) is set to hold its first hearing on August 29 regarding the lawsuits filed against the controversial law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence".
The lawsuits have been brought forward by a coalition of 122 NGOs, 38 members of the Georgian parliament, President Salome Zurabishvili, and two media outlets, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:00 Moscow time. The lawsuits, unified by the court, seek to challenge the law on foreign agents, which has sparked significant controversy and opposition from various sectors of Georgian society.
The Constitutional Court's decision to consolidate the lawsuits reflects the widespread concern and opposition to the law, which critics argue could stifle free speech and restrict the activities of NGOs and media organizations operating in Georgia.
