Georgia’s figurehead president to challenge "foreign agent” law in Constitutional Court
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili is set to file a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court, seeking to have the law "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" annulled.
President Zurabishvili contends that the law, enacted by the ruling Georgian Dream party, is unconstitutional, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
She is urging the court to determine its compliance with Article 78 of the Georgian constitution, which mandates that government bodies take all necessary measures to integrate the country into the EU and NATO,
In addition to the president's action, non-governmental organizations are also preparing to file lawsuits with the Constitutional Court. They argue that the law on foreign agents infringes upon constitutional rights related to freedom of association and the inviolability of personal life.
