Türkiye proposes Istanbul as venue for Ukraine peace talks

Türkiye believes Istanbul remains a suitable venue for continuing dialogue on the Ukraine conflict, RIA Novosti reports, citing a source in the Turkish government.

Ankara is convinced that the conflict in Ukraine can only be resolved through negotiations, according to the source.

“Istanbul has already proven to be a convenient platform for contacts between the parties, so Ankara considers it possible and appropriate to continue the negotiation process there,” the source told RIA Novosti.

On September 5, US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The following day, they discussed a settlement of the conflict with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Witkoff said the visits had produced significant progress.
