Georgian FM slams radical groups for weaponising international bodies
Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili has warned that modern political terrorism has expanded beyond physical violence to include coordinated campaigns aimed at discrediting public institutions and undermining national sovereignty.
"Political terrorism today manifests not only through violence, but also through campaigns to discredit state institutions and pressure on sovereign countries," Botchorishvili stated, warning that radical actors frequently abuse democratic rhetoric to weaken domestic stability, as per Caliber.Az report, citing Georgian media.
"Radical groups operate in the world under various ideologies, often covering themselves with democracy. However, their goal is not to strengthen democratic institutions, but to weaken them. Today we face complex and constantly changing challenges that directly affect our national interests, sovereignty, and security. Georgia is a clear example of such challenges; in recent years, numerous attempts have been made to polarise society and undermine trust in state institutions," she said.
The Foreign Minister also criticised the weaponisation of multilateral diplomatic bodies, arguing that international resolutions are being manipulated to validate domestic subversion.
"Radical groups try to use violence and sabotage as an instrument of political struggle. No less disturbing is the use of international institutions to legitimise such actions — through resolutions and other mechanisms aimed at exerting political pressure on sovereign states," she stated.
