Georgian PM: Any violence against state will face strict legal action
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze addressed the recent election processes and issued a stern warning to opposition supporters about the consequences of violent protests.
“Any violent action will be met with the strictest legal response,” Kobakhidze stated, according to reports from Georgian media, cited by Caliber.Az.
He called on “all political parties and associations to disassociate themselves from the assembly, which aims to overthrow the constitutional order, before it is too late.”
Kobakhidze emphasised that “Georgia's law enforcement agencies are as strong and united as ever,” and warned, “I do not advise anyone to take risks and oppose the state system and the law. Georgia will continue peaceful and stable development.”
Regarding the rally planned by radical political forces, he said, “The goal of the rally announced by radical political forces is unconstitutional.” The Prime Minister added, “This goal is to overthrow or forcibly change the constitutional order.”
He also accused the organisers of the rally of being “radical and extremist organisations and groups, most of which receive funding from abroad.”
Finally, Kobakhidze stated that “any anti-constitutional actions will be appropriately qualified under the Criminal Code of Georgia.”
