Georgian PM hopes for changes in EU bureaucracy over visa liberalisation
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has stated that the issue of visa liberalisation should not be used as a tool of pressure or political blackmail and hopes for changes in EU bureaucratic approaches.
Commenting on ongoing discussions with the European Union, he said Georgia’s responses are absolutely clear; everything else is politics, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
“We hope that ultimately approaches within European bureaucracy will change and that a fair attitude will be formed toward the Georgian people, our state, our country. We have answers to all questions and are completely open to dialogue. We want a fair approach, and we are telling this to our European partners,” he noted.
On March 6, 2026, the European Commission suspended visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic, service, and official passports, warning that further restrictions could follow.
The first meeting between the European Commission and Georgian representatives on the issue took place yesterday.
