Georgian police dismantle underground drug lab, arrest Ukrainian national VIDEO
Georgian police have dismantled an underground drug laboratory in the capital, Tbilisi, and arrested a Ukrainian national on suspicion of manufacturing narcotics for distribution, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
According to the ministry, officers from the Vake-Saburtalo Main Directorate of the Tbilisi Police Department uncovered the laboratory during an investigation. Authorities allege the suspect was producing illegal drugs in a laboratory set up inside his apartment using chemicals and precursor substances for subsequent sale, Caliber.Az reports.
During a search of the property, police seized approximately 1.5 kilograms of the narcotic substances mephedrone and alpha-PVP, along with other evidence related to the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Articles 260 and 260-4 of Georgia's Criminal Code. If convicted, the suspect faces up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment, according to the ministry.
