Georgian ruling party refuses to visit Ukraine on war anniversary
20 February 2023 18:10
The ruling Georgian Dream party will not send a delegation to Ukraine for a ceremony held on February 24 to mark the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“A delegation of the Georgian parliament was invited to attend the February 24 event, but "we rejected the invitation," Georgian Dream MP Irakli Zarkua said on February 20, according to the Netgazeti news website.
Zarkua said that the ruling party refused to go to Kyiv for two reasons, and one of them is that "high-ranking Ukrainian officials call on Georgia to open a second front" against Russia.
Another reason is that Ukrainians "refer to [ex-president] Mikheil Saakashvili as a political prisoner", he added.
