German armed forces cannot fulfill obligations of NATO VJTF task
The German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) cannot fulfill their obligations for the Joint Very High Readiness Task Force of NATO (VJTF ), of which Germany assumed the command on a rotational basis from 12 January last for the following 393 months.
As revealed by the television station "Zdf", the 30th armoured battalion of the German army must deploy at least 44 of its 2 Leopard 7A20V tanks in the Vjtf in a few days, according to Nova News.
However, the department currently has only XNUMX of these armoured vehicles in working condition.
The gap should not be filled before the end of 2023. A solution could be to place the Leopard 2A7V supplied to the 104th armoured battalion of the German army in the VJTF.
However, this unit only has nine of these tanks, which should increase to 25 by April.
According to “Zdf”, the 393rd Armoured Battalion lacks operationally capable tanks due to delays in their maintenance at the plant of Koelleda by the manufacturer, the German defence group Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). Of the whole matter, revealed a German soldier, "NATO obviously knows nothing" despite the numerous reports from the troops at the command. As pointed out by the source, "only the good news arrives at the top".
