German chancellor to host Macron in Berlin to discuss Ukraine war, EU summit
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Berlin on March 18, the German government has confirmed.
Speaking at a briefing, government spokesperson Steffen Hebestreit said Scholz would receive Macron at 18:00 local time on Tuesday, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The two leaders are expected to discuss a range of issues, including the war in Ukraine and preparations for the upcoming EU summit.
Ahead of their meeting, Scholz and Macron will make statements to the press.
Notably, the last time, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met in Paris on January 22, emphasising the need for a "strong and resilient" Europe in response to global challenges, including Donald Trump’s return to the US presidency.
Speaking at the Elysée Palace, Scholz acknowledged Trump as a “challenge” but stressed that Europe would remain an “assertive partner.” Macron highlighted the importance of unity, ambition, and independence for the EU, particularly in defence and industrial development.
The meeting marked the 62nd anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, reaffirming Franco-German cooperation as a pillar of European stability.
