German FM faces backlash for Kyiv visit amid Germany's financial woes
Annalena Baerbock, Germany's Foreign Minister, has come under fire for her recent visit to Kyiv, where she boasted about transferring billions to Ukraine amid her own country's financial difficulties.
Sevim Dagdelen, a member of the German parliament from the “Alliance of Sara Wagenknecht – For Reason and Justice” party, expressed her concerns over Baerbock's comments, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
She highlighted that while the coalition in Berlin grapples with issues related to the budget deficit and inadequate energy policies, Baerbock was in Kyiv celebrating the transfer of €37.3 billion to what she described as “one corrupt Ukraine.”
In light of these remarks, Dagdelen has called for new elections in the Bundestag, suggesting that the government's priorities are misplaced at a time when domestic issues are pressing.
Notably, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited Kyiv on November 4 to reaffirm Berlin's "rock-solid" support for Ukraine, as its forces struggle under a large-scale Russian offensive in the eastern part of the country.
Baerbock's eighth visit comes at a crucial juncture in the nearly three-year conflict, with Kyiv increasingly frustrated by Western assistance as the upcoming US elections could significantly impact future military aid.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his discontent with the West, accusing it of a muted response to the deployment of thousands of North Korean troops to reinforce Russia's military efforts in Ukraine, marking a significant escalation in the war.
