German police recover multiple diamond pieces stolen during 2019 Dresden museum theft
German police have recovered a number of 18th-Century treasures which were stolen from a Dresden museum during a €113 million heist in 2019.
According to 20 Minuten, authorities returned 31 objects to the "Green Vault" museum in Dresden, known in German as Dresden's Grünes Gewölbe, after securing them overnight in Berlin.
The items were reportedly found after lawyers held negotiations with six men that are currently on trial for the museum theft.
Among the recovered items are a diamond-encrusted breast star and a richly-jeweled Heron Tail hat decoration.
The thieves stole the treasures from part of a collection created in 1723 by Saxony's ruler, Augustus the Strong.
"The police and justice department have done a fantastic job. Saxony says thank you! The valuable pieces of art from the green vault belong to the cultural heritage of our country", the Minister President of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, wrote following the recovery on his official Twitter account.
