Germany hails progress in Ukraine weapons production agreement
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has hailed the progress made in the implementation of an agreement on Germany’s financing of long-range weapons production in Ukraine, three months after the deal was signed.
Speaking to Deutsche Welle on August 27, Pistorius described the initial results as “outstanding," Caliber.Az reports.
“This is primarily due to the fact that we have quickly come closer, and not least to the fact that the Ukrainians are once again demonstrating how quickly they are deploying new production facilities, how quickly they are implementing it, starting production, deliveries, and therefore applications,” he said during the inauguration of Rheinmetall’s new ammunition factory in Lower Saxony.
The minister added that common ground had been found and expressed admiration for the resilience of Ukraine’s forces.
“I am very satisfied with the results to date,” Pistorius said, “but there is still a way to go.”
The Düsseldorf-based defence contractor Rheinmetall opened its new arms and explosives manufacturing plant on August 27. Located in the German state of Lower Saxony, it is now the largest munitions factory in Europe.
