Germany, Japan to help organise grain exports from Ukraine
Against the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Germany and Japan will defend the rules-based world order and help organise grain exports from Ukraine.
This is according to the results of the meeting between Japanes Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and his Germany counterpart Annalena Baerbock, Kyodo news writes.
"The foreign ministers of Japan and Germany promised to work together to support the rules-based international order threatened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, while maintaining economic sanctions against Moscow," the article says.
According to Hayashi, Germany and Japan will also help organise grain exports from Ukraine. However, the minister did not specify what exactly the two countries intend to do.
It is noted that the two ministers also agreed that "the two states should further strengthen defence cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region against the background of China's increased maritime assertiveness".
"We must be united with like-minded states to deal with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which undermines the foundations of the international order," Hayashi said.
As previously reported, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio announced additional sanctions against Russia, including a ban on the import of Russian gold and restrictions for 70 individuals.
