Germany pledges additional €40 million in winter aid to Ukraine amid Russian attacks
Germany has announced an additional €40 million in winter assistance for Ukraine in response to ongoing Russian attacks on the country’s energy and civilian infrastructure, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said.
“We are helping keep homes warm and lit and to ensure that Russia's targeted terror attacks on civilian gas and heating infrastructure do not succeed in breaking the morale of those defending their homeland,” Wadephul said, emphasizing Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine during the harsh winter months, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The new funding will be directed toward humanitarian initiatives, including the repair of heating systems and damaged homes, as well as the provision of essential supplies such as generators, blankets, and hygiene products.
This announcement follows Germany’s earlier contribution of €60 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in late October, which supports the delivery of generators, energy equipment, and mobile thermal power plants to ensure reliable electricity and heating.
Norway has also stepped up its support: earlier, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced additional funding to help provide Ukraine with electricity and heating ahead of winter, highlighting growing European efforts to mitigate the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict.
