Germany to provide €70 million to support Ukraine during winter crisis
Germany will provide Ukraine with an additional €70 million in assistance to help the country cope during the winter amid Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure, German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali-Radovan, announced.
The funds are intended to secure heating, water supply, and electricity for more than 2.5 million people, particularly during the cold winter months, Caliber.Az reports, citing Tagesschau.
The money will primarily be used for decentralised heating solutions, including mobile heating units, enabling municipalities to ensure heating for schools, kindergartens, and hospitals even if major power plants are damaged.
“Municipalities should be able to ensure the heating of schools, kindergartens, and hospitals even if large power plants are attacked. The measures in energy supply help people cope with their daily lives,” the minister noted.
Earlier, Luxembourg contributed €10 million to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund, while in early December, Germany announced an additional €100 million in aid for rebuilding destroyed infrastructure, on top of €60 million already allocated this year.
