Germany to provide €9 billion in military aid to Ukraine, defence minister says
Germany has announced a substantial increase in military assistance to Ukraine, pledging a total of €9 billion in aid for 2025, with a significant portion dedicated to the procurement of long-range weapon systems.
The commitment was revealed by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius during a briefing alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
“Germany will participate in financing long-range weapons. These weapons must be produced and made available in the near future. And we must provide the necessary funds so that the Ukrainian Armed Forces can purchase the materials,” Pistorius stated, underscoring Germany’s crucial role in supporting Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
The minister highlighted that Germany and Ukraine have formalized their cooperation through specific agreements to guarantee the delivery and financing of these advanced arms systems.
“On Germany's part, I want to say that we entered this year with a planned €4 billion in aid to Ukraine. In recent months, we increased that to €7 billion. We now want to add another €1.9 billion—though that has not yet been finalized. However, part of that will be allocated for financing the long-range weapons project. In total, this brings our support for Ukraine to €9 billion,” Pistorius emphasized.
