Meghan Markle in talks for role in Netflix series "The Gentlemen"
Meghan Markle is in early discussions to potentially join the cast of Guy Ritchie’s hit Netflix drama The Gentlemen for a potential third season, marking what could be her high-profile return to scripted acting.
The developments follow reports circulating Friday morning, August 21, that the former Suits star has been “offered a role in an upcoming project based in the UK.”
However, industry sources who spoke to Deadline caution that discussions remain entirely preliminary and hypothetical. The series — which stars Theo James — has not yet been officially renewed for a third season by Netflix, though an order is widely expected ahead of its Season 2 premiere on September 3. Furthermore, sources indicate that no specific role has been identified or assigned to Markle at this stage.
Despite the unconfirmed status, industry analysts note that a high-profile casting move would align strategically for both parties. Securing Markle for a major role in the UK-filmed production would bring significant attention and potential new viewers to the franchise. Additionally, Markle and Prince Harry maintain an established first-look deal with Netflix, under which they continue to develop various film and television projects.
The casting rumours surface alongside news announced earlier this week that Markle and Prince Harry plan to return to the UK for an extended period. The couple has resided in California for the past six years following their relocation to the United States in 2020.
Since establishing their American media presence, the couple has produced the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and With Love, Meghan, alongside Markle’s Archetypes podcast. Markle also recently made a guest appearance on MasterChef Australia, and was announced last year to be appearing in a cameo role for the Amazon MGM Studios feature film Close Personal Friends.
Set within the universe of Ritchie’s 2019 Miramax feature film, the upcoming second season of The Gentlemen picks up one year after Eddie (James) and Susie (Kaya Scodelario) joined forces to manage Bobby’s (Ray Winstone) overseas criminal empire. As the duo attempts to expand the enterprise, Bobby’s increasingly volatile decision-making forces them to decide whether to intervene or risk total ruin.
The ensemble cast features Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, Pearce Quigley, Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellitto, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, Chris Eubank Jr., and Maya Jama.
Created by Ritchie, who co-writes with Matthew Read and co-directs alongside Eran Creevy, The Gentlemen is produced by Moonage Pictures (part of ITV Studios) and Miramax Television for Netflix. Executive producers include Ritchie, Read, Will Gould, Frith Tiplady, Simon Crawford Collins, and Ivan Atkinson, with Laura Jackson and Max Keene producing.
