Germany to supply 33 mobile power plants to Ukraine
Germany plans to transfer 33 mobile combined heat and power plants to Ukraine to help stabilise the country’s energy system amid continued Russian attacks, according to German Ambassador to Ukraine Heiko Thoms.
In an interview with Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne, Thoms said that strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure constitute war crimes because they deliberately target the civilian population. He emphasised that Ukraine requires immediate assistance and that Germany intends to continue providing support.
Thoms noted that Germany is already Ukraine’s largest partner in the energy sector, supplying generators, energy storage systems, and transport equipment needed for repair operations. He said the additional delivery of 33 mobile thermal power plants would significantly expand this assistance.
According to the ambassador, a single installation is capable of providing heat and electricity to tens of thousands of people, while all 33 units together could serve millions. He acknowledged that connecting the equipment to Ukraine’s energy network presents technical challenges but said Germany is prepared to work closely with Ukrainian authorities to accelerate the process.
Thoms also recalled that Germany has already delivered nine IRIS-T air defence systems to Ukraine and is expecting further deliveries in the future.
