Global Forum inspires to move forward together – UN official
Under-Secretary-General for Policy at the United Nations Guy Ryder has said that the Global Forum inspires to move forward.
The issue of "Fixing Fractured World", the theme of the 11th Global Baku Forum, has now become a dilemma for society. We need cooperation to prevent this fractured world, he said at the opening ceremony of the Forum organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, AZERTAC reports.
"If the issues discussed at this forum are successfully addressed, it will be a historic event. We will be able to address the challenges of a fractured world through a more effective, inclusive and new multilateralism. Of course, COP29, which will be held in Azerbaijan after the forum, is a UN event of global scale and extreme importance, and we, as the UN, fully support such an event as well as your country's chairmanship in this sphere.
The recent isolation of the Black Sea has shown that the emergence of conflicts leads to excessive carbon emissions into the atmosphere. We therefore welcome the initiative of Egypt and the United Kingdom on the COP. Azerbaijan, as a host country, should continue its efforts in this area based on the COP27 and COP28 presidents’ initiatives, together with Brazil's initiative, so that a more inclusive, comprehensive and effective global architecture can be formed.
The only condition for that is respect for human rights and international law. I think the time has come. Now, more than ever, we must all fulfill our responsibilities. We must do so for future generations. We believe that this forum will also give us the opportunity to analyze and inspire us all to move forward together," Ryder noted.
