Baku hosts ceremony marking Latvia’s 107th independence anniversary PHOTO
On November 20, an official reception took place in Baku to commemorate the 107th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia.
According to domestic media, the ceremony began with the performance of the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Latvia.
Latvia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Edgars Skuja, highlighted the positive developments in the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He emphasised that long-term stability in the South Caucasus is crucial for regional economic growth and underlined Azerbaijan’s strategic importance in this context.
The ambassador also spoke about the strategic partnership between Latvia and Azerbaijan, referencing recent high-level meetings and outlining future cooperation opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, green technologies, and organic farming.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, stressed that bilateral ties are grounded in mutual respect. He noted that 47 agreements have already been signed between the two countries, while another six are currently under review. Mammadov added that the work of the intergovernmental commission, parliamentary cooperation, and mutual support in international organisations significantly contribute to the advancement of relations.
The reception was attended by government and state officials, as well as members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan.
