Gulf region risks losing billions in tourism revenue amid crisis
The Persian Gulf could face major economic losses in its tourism sector as the ongoing crisis deters travelers, a senior regional official has warned.
Jasem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, said the region risks losing between 8 million and 19 million tourists, with potential revenue losses ranging from $13 billion to $32 billion, according to reports cited by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia.
Speaking during an emergency meeting of tourism ministers, Al-Budaiwi said the situation poses a significant challenge to Gulf economies, particularly the tourism sector, which has been a key driver of growth in recent years.
He stressed the need for proactive measures to restore traveler confidence and mitigate the economic impact, urging coordinated efforts to revive interest in the region amid ongoing instability.
