Hamas political bureau chief Haniyeh buried in Qatar
Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau, was buried at a cemetery in Lusail, north of Doha.
The funeral was attended by Qatari officials, members of the royal family, and Haniyeh's family. Also present were Iran's First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Thousands of people gathered to bid farewell to Haniyeh. Prayers were first held at the Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque in Doha before his body was transported to Lusail.
Due to the presence of numerous state officials, particularly from Islamic countries, security measures at the ceremony were significantly heightened.
Prayers for Haniyeh were also held on August 2 in Indonesia, Türkiye, Yemen, and other countries. In Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif joined the faithful in prayer.
Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on July 31. Hamas has accused Israel of the attack, though Israel has not claimed responsibility. Previously, Hamas had stated that both the U.S. and Israel were responsible for the incident.
