Heavy rains leave 64 dead in Mexico, dozens still missing
The number of fatalities caused by flooding from heavy rains in Mexico has risen to 64, with another 65 people reported missing, according to authorities.
The National Civil Protection Coordination Office (CNPC) said that the toll has increased since last week due to torrential rainfall from tropical storms Priscilla and Raymond, as per foreign media.
The states most affected include Veracruz, Puebla, Hidalgo, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí, which have recorded the highest numbers of deaths and missing individuals.
Speaking at a daily press briefing at the Palacio de la Nación, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that rescue teams have been dispatched to assist those affected.
She assured the public that the government has sufficient resources to manage the crisis, but stressed that a state of emergency remains in effect.
