High energy prices hit domestic chicken farming in France
It was stated that there was an explosion in chicken meat imports in France due to the high cost caused by the energy crisis and the bird flu causing domestic chicken prices to skyrocket.
One of the mainstream media in the country , domestic producers have difficulty in meeting the demand for chicken meat, which is widely consumed by the French, due to bird flu and high costs, TRT Haber reports.
The increase in energy and grain prices due to the Ukraine war increased the costs of domestic poultry by 30 per cent, and this situation was reflected in the prices as at least 14 per cent.
Producers are also struggling to keep chicks warm on farms due to rising gas prices.
Suppliers, on the other hand, started to import almost half of the chicken meat from abroad due to the more affordable cost.
On the other hand, Ukrainian chicken is expected to fill the French markets, as the European Union has lifted the customs quota for one year.
It is noted that while the share of imported chicken in the domestic market in France was 25 per cent in 2021, it increased to 50 per cent this year.
