Houthis attack US warships, including aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman
Yemeni Houthis from the Ansar Allah movement have launched attacks on US warships, including the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, in the Red Sea.
Yahya Saree, a spokesperson for the armed forces aligned with the Houthis, announced the operation on his Telegram channel, Caliber.Az reports via international media.
"Over the past few hours, missile forces, unmanned aviation, and naval forces have conducted a joint operation targeting enemy warships in the Red Sea, led by the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman," the statement read.
Saree said that his group also launched a fresh attack on Israel in the past few hours.
"In support of the Palestinian people in Gaza, we targeted military targets in Tel Aviv, using several drones," he said, pledging to continue targeting Israeli cities and Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea until "the war on Gaza stops."
On March 25, the Houthi movement claimed responsibility for launching two ballistic missiles aimed at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport and conducting an attack on the USS Harry S. Truman and other US warships in the Red Sea. The attack on Ben Gurion Airport, located near Jaffa, involved a "Palestine 2" hypersonic ballistic missile. Multiple missiles and drones targeted US naval assets in the Red Sea.
This escalation follows recent US military strikes on Yemen, which targeted Houthi-controlled areas, including the capital, Sanaa. Over the weekend, these strikes killed more than 50 people and injured nearly 100, according to Houthi sources, prompting their retaliatory missile and drone assaults.
On March 15, US President Donald Trump announced the launch of a military operation against the Houthis, who control about a third of Yemeni territory. Trump justified the operation by citing repeated Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The US operation involves an aircraft carrier strike group led by the USS Harry S. Truman, which has been conducting airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa.
