Hungarian FM calls Zelenskyy’s remarks about PM Orbán rude
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó criticized comments made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, calling them rude, in a post on Facebook.
Earlier, Zelenskyy, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, said that “one Viktor can think about how to grow his belly – not how to grow his army to stop Russian tanks from returning to the streets of Budapest.”
In response, Szijjártó emphasized that “Ukraine is defending itself,” not Hungary, and noted that Russia has not attacked Europe. “It is pointless to make arrogant, rude remarks about Viktor Orbán, pointless to ally with Brussels, pointless to support the [opposition] ‘Tisza’ party,” he wrote.
He added that Hungary will not give away its citizens’ money or allow itself to be drawn into a conflict that would send Hungarian youth to the front lines.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also reacted, addressing Zelenskyy’s personal attacks in a post on X following the panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference.
“Dear Volodymyr, thank you for yet another campaign speech in support of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. It will greatly help Hungarians see the situation more clearly.
There is, however, something you misunderstand: this debate is not about me and it is not about you. It is about the future of Hungary, Ukraine, and Europe. This is precisely why you cannot become a member of the European Union.,” Orbán stated
