Hungary, Austria not to send weapons to Ukraine

Hungarian Defence Minister Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky has said that Budapest and Vienna will not send weapons to Ukraine as it may escalate the ongoing armed conflict.

Szalay-Bobrovniczky made the statement after talks with his Austrian counterpart Klaudia Tanner on January 30, TASS reports, citing MTI.

"Hungary's position is clear: we are not supplying weapons to the conflict zone as we want to avoid its escalation, and in this respect, our position coincides with that of Austria. Neutral Austria also does not send weapons to where hostilities are going on," the Hungarian minister said.

For her part, Tanner noted that the greatest danger could be the spreading of the conflict into the territory of Europe.

She said it is about threats such as increased migration, which has been intensified by the fighting in Ukraine.
