FM: Budapest ready to ensure safety for Putin–Trump talks
Hungary has offered to ensure the safety of talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
Speaking to journalists in Budapest, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said the country is prepared to provide “the necessary conditions” for the two leaders to meet in a secure and calm environment, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
He added that Hungary is “one of the safest countries in the world.”
Szijjártó also assured that Putin would be able to enter and leave the country without any obstacles, emphasising that Budapest is expecting the Russian president.
The announcement follows a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump on October 16, after which the US president confirmed that the two had agreed to hold a meeting in Budapest.
No official date for the summit has yet been announced, though both the Russian and Hungarian authorities have confirmed that preparations are already underway.
