Hungary’s Magyar promises stronger EU, NATO ties after election victory
Péter Magyar, leader of the opposition Tisza Party, said after the party’s victory in Hungary’s parliamentary elections on April 12 that the country is ready to become once again a reliable partner in the European Union and NATO.
He made the remarks in his post-election speech after the Tisza Party’s decisive win became clear, expressing confidence that a Tisza-led government would restore Hungary’s position as a loyal ally within the EU and NATO and rebuild friendly relations with neighbouring Central and Eastern European countries, including Poland, Caliber.Az reports per Hungarian media.
“Hungary will once again be a reliable ally, representing Hungarian interests, because our place was, is and will be in Europe,” the Tisza leader said.
He also voiced an intention to resume, strengthen, and potentially expand cooperation within the Visegrád Group — comprising Budapest, Warsaw, Prague, and Bratislava.
“The first road will lead to Poland, the second to Vienna, the third to Brussels, to restore European funding,” Magyar said.
