Hungary’s new FM replaces entire ministry team
Hungary’s new Foreign Minister Anita Orban has completely reshuffled the leadership of the country’s foreign ministry, leaving none of her predecessor Péter Szijjártó’s team in place.
Sharing a post on Facebook, Anita said she introduced four new deputy state secretaries at a staff meeting — a role equivalent to state secretaries in the Hungarian system, Caliber.Az reports.
According to her, all of them joined the ministry with significant professional experience, international expertise, and dedication to public service.
The newly appointed officials include György Velkey, Gabriella Kereszty, Klára Breuer, and Krisztián Mészáros. They will be responsible for parliamentary affairs, public administration, bilateral relations, and multilateral cooperation, respectively.
“In the coming period, we will continue to build on this professional community,” she wrote.
Hungarian media reported that the leadership team includes both political appointees and professional diplomats.
Velkey, in particular, previously worked in academic international cooperation and has no prior foreign policy experience; he was also elected to parliament from the Tisza party.
