Hungary’s PM announces creation of new anti-corruption body
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has announced the establishment of a new state body aimed at combating corruption.
According to his statement, the bill to create the “National Office for Asset Recovery and Protection” will be among the first legislative initiatives submitted by the new government to parliament.
The new agency will focus on identifying abuses of public assets over the past 20 years, investigating corruption schemes, and tracking asset diversion networks. It will also assist in criminal proceedings related to the recovery of illegally acquired property and take measures to reclaim assets.
Magyar stressed that the agency will report directly to parliament rather than the government. He also noted that in cases where assets are moved abroad, the body will be empowered to seek support from international partners.
