Switzerland adopts 20th sanctions package against Russia
Switzerland has approved its 20th package of sanctions against Russia, aligning its measures with the European Union, Swissinfo reports.
The new restrictions target Russian-based liquefied natural gas tankers, icebreakers and terminals. Switzerland has also banned the sale or transfer of tankers to Russia.
For the first time, the government has activated an anti-circumvention tool aimed at preventing existing sanctions from being bypassed through third countries.
The package also extends an existing export ban to goods intended to strengthen Russia’s military and technological capabilities, as well as goods intended to support Russian industry.
Switzerland has additionally banned the use of Russian platforms for cryptocurrency transfers and exchanges.
The government also adopted measures to protect Swiss companies, including their intellectual property rights, from unfavourable rulings by Russian courts.
Switzerland initially added 115 individuals and entities to its asset-freeze list in May 2026. Around 2,790 individuals, companies and organisations are currently subject to asset freezes in Switzerland in connection with Russia’s war against Ukraine.
