Uzbekistan advances plans for second nuclear power station
Uzbekistan has launced preparatory work on a project to construct its second nuclear power plant, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced.
Mirziyoyev made the remarks during a working visit to the Khorezm Region, highlighting the need to strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.
The president said reliable electricity supplies and lower power generation costs are crucial for attracting foreign investment and supporting the implementation of Uzbekistan’s Development Strategy through 2030.
Details of the planned nuclear facility have yet to be disclosed. Authorities have not specified its location, generating capacity or expected construction timeline.
Uzbekistan is already developing its first nuclear power project in the Forish District of the Jizzakh Region. On June 4, Mirziyoyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin officially launched construction of the plant’s first power unit, with the first concrete poured for its foundation.
