Hungary’s PM Magyar demands president step down, sets May 31 deadline
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has once again sharply criticised President Tamás Sulyok and reiterated his call for the head of state to step down.
Sharing a post on Facebook, he referred to Sulyok as a “puppet president of Viktor Orbán” and criticised him for giving an interview to what he described as a “mafia propaganda” outlet that “lied to the Hungarian people throughout the entire election campaign.”
He said former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had sought a president for whom loyalty to the Fidesz party would come first, while the protection of constitutional order and national unity would be secondary.
Magyar also claimed that Sulyok “lied” in the interview about several details, and therefore renewed his demand for his resignation.
“Although you tried to deny in today’s propaganda interview that on April 12, millions of Hungarians voted for regime change, this does not change reality. You were a puppet of that failed system, which the overwhelming majority of Hungarians have clearly said ‘no’ to, and which is now rejected by three-quarters of Hungarians,” he said.
He emphasised that Sulyok “must go.”
“Mr President, you must resign! And you will leave. You can still do it voluntarily before May 31,” Magyar added.
