Hungary’s PM to lodge complaint over Orbán-linked materials in ministry
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar has said he intends to file a police report after two dozen garbage bags containing shredded documents were discovered in the basement of the Ministry of Construction and Transport.
According to the minister, boxes containing campaign materials of the ruling party Fidesz, including leaflets and flags, were also found nearby, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Magyar claimed the discovery points to possible wrongdoing by the former government, suggesting potential misuse of public resources for political activity as well as unlawful party financing. He added that both law enforcement and the State Audit Office would be involved in the investigation, and promised to keep the public informed about its progress.
Former State Secretary Tünde Juhász, who oversaw the handover process, said the bags shown in the video did not contain official documents. She stated that the political materials were linked to the personal activities of former minister János Lázár and that the ministry had not ordered or financed them. Juhász added that the items remained in the basement because only two hours were allocated for vacating the building.
Earlier in May, Magyar announced plans to establish a new state body to combat corruption, tasked with investigating alleged misuse of state assets over the past 20 years and probing corruption schemes and asset diversion cases.
