ICRC warns about humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed concern about the danger civilians in the Gaza Strip face as they travel south.
The ICRC noted that it had received many calls from people requesting help in finding their relatives, Anadolu reports.
The Red Cross said that about 100 thousand people in Gaza need hygiene products, drinking water, food and shelter.
“The situation in the Gaza Strip is rapidly approaching the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe,” the ICRC said.
The southern part of Gaza, as noted by the ICRC, is not able to meet the needs of a large number of people, and the amount of humanitarian assistance received is completely insufficient.
The ICRC called for the protection of civilians under siege in the Gaza Strip and for the orderly and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid.
The Red Cross recalled that hospital areas are full of people who face a threat to their lives due to Israeli shelling.
“People tell us that they are afraid to open the doors of their houses day and night for fear of facing death. They are asking us to help and take them to safety,” said William Schomburg, head of the ICRC office in Gaza.
