Israel targets Hezbollah facilities, weapons cache in southern Lebanon Amid ongoing tensions
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted a series of strikes targeting Hezbollah military positions in southern Lebanon, including the destruction of a weapons cache and a rocket launcher.
The operations focused on several key areas, including Kawkaba, Majdal Zun, Jibbein, and Blida, Caliber.Az reports citing IDF.
The IDF's airstrikes aimed at a weapons depot in Kawkaba, which had previously been used to launch rockets, as well as other Hezbollah facilities. Additionally, Israeli artillery targeted neighborhoods in Labbouneh, Ramieh, Aita Al Shaab, and Aalma El Chaeb.
In response to these developments, an air alert was declared in Israel for the third time today, with sirens sounding in Dovev, a settlement in northern Israel. The alert followed the interception of a suspicious aerial target that had crossed the border from Lebanon. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from this incident.
The Israel Defense Forces have reported the destruction of more than 140 Hezbollah facilities in Lebanon over the past week. These operations targeted a range of key sites, including weapons production facilities, weapons depots, observation posts, and rocket launchers aimed at northern Israeli settlements.
Soldiers from Israel’s Golani Brigade played a significant role in the dismantling of Hezbollah infrastructure. The operations also included military exercises simulating combat scenarios in enemy territory, focusing on maneuvers in challenging terrain and methods for evacuating wounded personnel.
In addition to these actions, the IDF reported that several militants conducting terrorist activities against Israel in southern Syria were also eliminated during this period.
The escalation on the Israeli-Lebanese border has intensified following the commencement of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. Daily shelling of Hezbollah positions along the border has led to significant displacement on both sides.
The Lebanese Foreign Ministry has reported that around 100,000 people in southern Lebanon have been forced to evacuate their homes due to the ongoing Israeli strikes. Similarly, Israel has indicated that approximately 80,000 residents in northern Israel have faced similar displacement challenges.
