President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has been re-elected as the president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC).
At the IX reporting and electoral General Assembly of the NOC, Ilham Aliyev was unanimously re-elected as the head of the organization for another four-year term, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The session also saw elections for members of the Executive Committee and the Auditing Commission. President Ilham Aliyev, Azer Aliyev, Chingiz Huseynzade, Zemfira Meftakhatdinova, Farid Mansurov, Elnur Mammadli, Faig Garayev, Alla Hasanova, Nazim Huseynov, and Namig Abdullayev were elected as members of the NOC Executive Committee.
The National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan was founded in 1992 and gained recognition from the International Olympic Committee the following year in 1993.
Azerbaijan participated in the Olympic Games for the first time as an independent nation in 1996 and has since been a consistent presence at every subsequent Games.
The committee represents Azerbaijan at the international Olympic stage, operating in accordance with the Olympic Charter and the Azerbaijani Republic’s laws regarding enterprises and public organizations. Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, has served as the committee's president since 1997.
