Instagram rolls out grid reordering feature globally for users
Instagram has begun rolling out a long-anticipated feature that allows users to reorder posts on their profile grid, giving accounts greater control over how their pages appear to visitors.
The update, which the company said launched worldwide on June 8, enables users to drag and rearrange posts directly within their profile, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The feature is accessed by long-pressing a post and selecting a “Reorder grid” option, opening an editing interface where content can be repositioned.
Pinned posts remain fixed at the top of profiles and are not affected by the rearrangement tool.
The change alters only the visual layout of a user’s profile grid and does not modify original publication dates or the chronological order of posts in feeds, according to the company.
The move has been widely requested by creators and businesses seeking more flexibility in curating their profiles as visual portfolios. Photographers, brands and theme-based accounts are expected to benefit most, as they can now adjust presentation without deleting or reposting content.
Meta Platforms, which owns Instagram, has in recent years introduced a series of tools aimed at expanding creator control and monetisation options, as competition intensifies in the social media market.
While many users have welcomed the update, some analysts note that increased curation could further blur the line between chronological posting and algorithmically or aesthetically driven profile presentation, potentially affecting how audiences interpret content histories.
The rollout follows earlier testing of similar “edit grid” concepts and reflects Instagram’s broader push to enhance profile customisation features.
