International organisation designates Armenia as mine-producing country
The International Campaign to Ban Landmines global network noted that Armenia is a mine-producing country.
The number of mine-producing countries decreased from 55 to 11 in previous years, however, given that Armenia is also a mine-producing country, it was revealed that 12 countries were producing mines, Report informs citing the Landmine Monitor Report project prepared by the international organisation.
According to the agency, Azerbaijan has not acceded to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
“The official statement has been made that Azerbaijan supports the goals of this Convention, but was unable to accede to it because there is no peace treaty with Armenia. Despite Armenia’s aggression, Azerbaijan did not plant mines. Azerbaijan has voted in the UN General Assembly for the universalisation of this agreement and has voted annually in support of resolutions since 2005. Azerbaijan has also repeatedly stated that it does not produce or export anti-personnel mines, but conducts demining process and continues enlightening about mine risk,” the message says.
