Iran, EU discuss nuclear programme amid tensions over UN Security Council Resolutions
On September 5, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, in Doha, focusing on developments surrounding Tehran’s nuclear programme.
During the meeting, both sides examined the latest developments regarding Iran’s nuclear issue, particularly what Iran described as the “irresponsible and unjustified action of the three European countries to reinstate previously revoked UN Security Council Resolutions,” Caliber.Az reports, per Iranian media.
They also discussed Iran’s ongoing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Highlighting the illegality of the European move, Araghchi reminded the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs of her role as the “Coordinator of the JCPOA Joint Commission,” stressing that the body “is expected, in line with its duty under the JCPOA and Resolution 2231, to fulfil its responsibility and neutralise actions against diplomacy.”
He also reiterated Iran’s commitment to diplomacy, saying the country “remains serious and steadfast in this approach.”
Kallas underscored the importance of dialogue, noting that “diplomacy and negotiations are the sole way to address the concerns of all parties” and highlighting the need to “provide more opportunities for diplomacy.”
Both sides agreed that consultations would continue in the coming days and weeks.
